The Diploma in Mass Communication programme offers a broad spectrum of subjects that creates paths towards several career directions salient in Mass Communication. The programme is distinguished from other learning institutes as it incorporates a unique learning methodology known as Project-Based Learning. The emphasis throughout this programme is hands-on experiences from video production, publication, event management and various areas of media studies. Students will graduate with an impressive set of skills and knowledge that are pertinent to multiple working platforms – from working in creative agencies to working in multinational corporations.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Corporate Communication

The subject covers the internal and external aspects of corporate communication; employee, community, financial and government PR.

Broadcast Portfolio

This subject creates an opportunity for the students to apply the theories and basics of production that they have been taught earlier. Students have to produce a production that will be telecast or presented to a panel of industry professionals at the end of the semester.

Feature Writing

Feature writing is an advanced writing and reporting course. The course will emphasize on generating and developing concrete ideas for writing articles, with significant focus also given to all aspects of good writing and reporting, including grammar, spelling, punctuation, organization, accuracy, completeness, conciseness, taste and readability.

Writing for Different Media

It is an introductory subject where students are taught a broad range of writing techniques that are relevant and used in the media industry today. Both fiction and non-fiction writing methods will be taught.

Event Management and PR Campaign Strategies

This course is designed to give students a step by step checklist of planning and implementing process of PR campaigns. It emphasizes on building socially responsible relations rather than the communication campaigns. Students will also be taught the essential knowledge and cutting-edge tools that they need to execute events that form part of the campaigns.

Entry Requirements

• Pass SPM/O Level with a minimum of 3 credits
• Pass UEC with a minimum of grade B in 3 subjects
• Other qualifications recognised by the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education are considered on a case-by-case basis
