Year 1

Mass Communication

This module introduces you to the field by exploring its history, structure, and societal impact. You will examine communication elements and processes, gaining a deeper understanding of media messages. This module helps you analyse how media content shapes audience attitudes and behaviours, fostering critical reflection on mass communication’s role in society.

Communication English

This module develops and enhances your four language skills - reading, writing, listening, and speaking - for general communication and academic competence. Through discussions, activities, and tasks, you will practise using higher-level English. Projects will help you refine your skills and apply your knowledge to real-life and career-related situations.

Digital Media Graphics

This subject introduces you to the most basic design software used today. You will learn to manage simple computer design functions and applications. Both practical and theoretical assignments will be given to enhance your understanding of the software.

Creative Thinking

This module encourages you to shift your mindset about creativity by exploring what it means to be creative and how to think creatively. In addition to developing your creative thinking, it also helps refine your analytical skills.

Presentation Skills

This subject equips you with the skills needed for effective presentations. It also encourages you to think critically about your audience and the purpose of your presentation while planning and delivering it.

Research Methods

This module introduces you to the importance of research in today’s world and encourages critical thinking about society. It helps you articulate your thoughts, formulate meaningful questions, and identify the most effective research methods to explore and understand the world around you.

Introduction to Sociology

As an introduction, you will explore the discipline of sociology, its theories, and its research methods. You will examine the relationships between the individual, culture, and society, and how social and cultural forces shape personal experiences and group behaviour.

Photography & Digital Imaging

This subject offers a basic introduction to photography and digital imaging. It covers various topics, from display design to fundamental DSLR usage. Case studies of renowned photographs will be explored for discussion.

Principles of Advertising

This module introduces you to basic advertising concepts and explores the roles of advertisers, agencies, the media, and other industry professionals. It examines how the advertising industry operates to effectively reach its target audience.

Video Production

This subject introduces you to the procedures and techniques of video production. Through practical workshops, supervised exercises, screenings, and discussions, you will develop both technical skills and creative practices. You will also learn to operate video equipment and apply the right techniques for field productions, covering pre-production, production, and post-production in single-camera video production.

Digital Storytelling & Animation

This module introduces you to motion and broadcast graphics, focusing on creating and applying visuals in media content design. You will develop technical skills in Adobe After Effects, including motion graphics, green screen techniques, tracking, rotoscoping, and compositing for creative multimedia production.

Public Relations

This subject introduces you to the fundamentals of Public Relations and its role in the communications industry. Using real-world case studies, you will explore PR theories, activities, job scope, and its impact within the corporate environment, gaining a broad understanding of its effectiveness in communication.

Principles of Journalism

This module introduces you to the fundamentals of journalism, including information gathering, interview skills, media ethics, and the publication industry. You will also develop practical skills in news writing and editing, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the journalistic process at an introductory level.

Digital Publishing

This module introduces you to a broad range of writing techniques relevant to today’s media industry. Focusing on creative writing strategies, it covers both fiction and non-fiction methods. You will learn to generate ideas, outline, and develop writing materials for various media industries.

Year 2

Media Ethics & Regulations

Personal ethics is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the media industry and society, making this module essential. You will also learn the basic rules and regulations in Malaysia, helping you identify legal boundaries and understand the key do's and don’ts in the media landscape.

Digital Media Analysis

This module explores critical and theoretical approaches to understanding contemporary media, focusing on mass media such as television, radio, and internet streaming. You will examine the meanings, pleasures, and practices associated with the production and consumption of media content.

Publicity in the Metaverse

This module helps you understand the media's role in publicity and promotions. You will develop skills and techniques to utilise print and electronic media from a PR perspective. With these abilities, you can implement effective publicity and media relations through detailed planning and targeted strategies.

Transmedia Content Creation and Management

This advanced module introduces you to various media technologies used in news dissemination. You will explore media writing and curation in the digital age, tailored for contemporary online audiences. You will also develop the skills to produce publish-ready articles and understand the business, cultural, and technological significance of media convergence for future employment.

PR Campaign Strategies

This module provides you with a step-by-step guide to planning and implementing PR campaigns. It emphasises building socially responsible relationships rather than just communication campaigns. You will also gain essential knowledge and cutting-edge tools to successfully execute events as part of these campaigns.

New Media Applications

This module introduces you to key concepts and practical skills in new media, examining its links to traditional media. You will explore how digital platforms reshape text, image, and sound in social communication, with a focus on emerging media in the broadcast industry.

In-Company Practical Training

This module enables you to apply your learning beyond the classroom, develop industry-relevant strategies, and bridge the gap between education and work. Through Internship Reflection, you will enhance critical thinking, communication skills, and career awareness, culminating in a comprehensive report and presentation.

Visual Communication

You will learn to conduct a cultural analysis of visuals and their meanings. You will also experiment with these connections and expand your technical skills and knowledge in workshops and studio time.

Copywriting

In this module, you will delve into the art of effective copywriting, with a focus on crafting copy for various media channels, including print, radio, TV, billboards, and more.

Corporate Communication

You will gain comprehensive knowledge of Corporate Communication, encompassing both its internal and external facets. This covers areas such as employee communication, community engagement, financial communication, and governmental PR. You will also explore the role of Corporate Social Responsibility in contemporary society.

International Marketing

This module goes beyond applying the marketing mix internationally, requiring a deep understanding of global business and its connection to marketing. You will explore how businesses meet the needs of overseas consumers while developing curiosity about the dynamics of a rapidly changing world.

Film Studies

This module helps you understand the language of cinema, film narrative, and its history while fostering an academic appreciation of film. You will learn to recognise subtle cues in cinematography and explore significant film movements and theories that have shaped world cinema.

Digital Short Film Project

In this module, you will gain a deeper understanding of the terminology commonly used in the broadcast industry and the various production roles involved in video production. You will also improve your production techniques and learn to apply your creative and aesthetic skills to create video content for broadcasting.

Feature Writing

In this advanced news writing module, you will focus on the process of generating, developing, and crafting compelling feature stories. You will master various approaches to writing these stories, exploring different types of features, with an emphasis on all elements of effective writing and reporting, including grammar, spelling, punctuation, organization, conciseness, taste, and readability.

Contextual Studies

This module presents you with an opportunity to explore the history, theories and contexts of advertising, design and media. You will investigate the various causes and influences on advertising and design-related practices within broad cultural and contextual frameworks. You will also learn to analyse stereotypes, ideas, values, class, race, gender, spectatorship, psychology, and art movements, and apply critical theories and media theories to gain a deeper understanding.

UI/UX Design Fundamentals

This module takes a design-centric approach to user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design, providing practical, skill-based instruction from a visual communications perspective, rather than solely focusing on marketing or programming.

MPU MODULES

Appreciation of Ethics and Civilisation (Malaysian students) / Malay Communication 1 (International students)

Appreciation of Ethics and Civilisation aims to provide a true understanding of the concept of ethical appreciation, especially in complying with the National Principles (Rukun Negara), government policies, unity efforts and national development. In this module, you will learn about Malaysian history before and after its independence, and efforts undertaken in building the nation's civilisation. Malay Communication 1 teaches you the basics of the Malay language to help in your daily communication. You will also learn to read, write and understand simple sentences and paragraphs in Malay.

Integrity and Anti-Corruption

This module covers the basic concepts of corruption including the value of integrity, anti-corruption, forms of corruption, abuse of power in daily activities and organisations as well as ways to prevent corruption. At the end of this module, you will be able to understand the practice of integrity, the concept of corruption, anti-corruption, abuse of power, as well as the prevention of corruption in society and organisations.

Community Service

Community Service focuses on the development of your communication, critical thinking and problem-solving skills through community service and cooperative learning. This will include the values of social responsibility, leadership and teamwork. The primary emphasis is on community service and/or co-curricular activities that may require going beyond the university environment.

National Language A (only for students without credit in SPM BM)

Bahasa Kebangsaan A helps you grasp the national language to effectively communicate, and express thoughts clearly and creatively through verbal and written communication.
