Director Chiu visits!


Director Chiu Think Big BigEnjoy watching films that tug your heartstrings with powerful story-telling and beautiful mise-en-scene? Ever wonder about the arts and science behind making a great film? IACT College invited the director who produced Malaysian blockbuster movies “The Journey” and “Ola Bola”, Chiu, along with the casts of his latest movie “Think (Big)2” to come and share his experience in filmmaking with IACT students on 1st March 2018.

Organized by Graduate to Industry Program (GRIP), a student enrichment program under IACT College, the talk saw a full house with anticipating mass communication and broadcasting students.

Director Chiu then shared his journey in filmmaking. Graduated from Beijing Film Academy and junior to big directors like Zhang Yimou and Chen KaiGe, Chiu is known to turn what seems mundane and dull elements into something beautiful and captivating. He is also known for capturing the essence of Malaysian culture in his films.

“Having tight budget has always been a struggle in Malaysia film industry. However, we all have that “Malaysia Boleh” spirit! We’ve learned to be very creative and resourceful in order to produce top-notch films despite having little budget.” Director Chiu shares as he shows some exclusive video footage from the production set of his previous films. Students were in awe seeing the amount of efforts and creativity involved in producing a great film!

“If filmmaking is your passion – think big, pursue it and do it well!” Chiu and the casts encouraged the participants. The talk ended with Q&A and photo session with Director Chiu and the casts.
